(AG Provincial E-Portal) - On August 15, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested that the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities pay attention and direct the acceleration of seeding and protect rice production in the Fall-Winter 2024 season.
Consequently, the agricultural industry suggests that the sowing schedule for the fall-winter crop of 2024 commences from July 15 to August 31, 2024. To date, the province has sown seeds on an area of 37,556 hectares (148,976 hectares), which is equivalent to 25.21% of the plan. 15.342 hectares of rice are currently in the seedling stage, 5.495 hectares are in the tillering stage, 13,952 hectares are in the rice field, and 2,768 hectares are in the flowering stage. In general, the sowing of seeds in the Fall-Winter 2024 crop is proceeding at a significantly slower pace than that of the previous year (Fall-Winter 2023 sowed 38,461 hectares, which amounted to 25.96% of the plan). If all districts sow seeds that concentrate on tea at the end of August, it is probable that consumption will be significantly impacted during the harvest season, and there is a risk of a shortage of harvesting machinery.
In light of the aforementioned situation, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requests that the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities prioritize the direction and execution of propaganda to encourage farmers to accelerate the seeding process, and that they continue to supervise the People's Committees of communes. To expedite the process of sowing rice seeds for the Fall-Winter 2024 season, capitalize on water pump meetings in accordance with the established seasonal calendar. The disease becomes more complex as the rice seeds are planted later, particularly with onion mosquitoes, as evidenced by pest situation assessments recorded over many years.
Simultaneously, continue to encourage and promote the cultivation of rice varieties associated with consumption in businesses, as outlined in Plan No. 80/KH-SNNPTNT, which implements the project of 1 million hectares in the fall-winter 2024 crop.
In order to promptly produce and respond to storms, it is imperative to enhance inspection and develop strategies to fortify culverts and proactive irrigation systems in each sub-region. To guarantee production safety, refrain from planting rice seeds for the fall-winter crop in regions lacking dikes. Concentrate on the monitoring of rice production, the early detection of pests, and the implementation of timely and effective management measures.
Furthermore, it is imperative to disseminate information in the media regarding the implementation of high-quality rice technical advancements, particularly economical watering techniques (alternate flooding - dry), IPM, and SRP, in order to decrease input costs, enhance production efficiency, and enhance the improve the quality of commodity rice.
It is advised that farmers utilize organic fertilizers and microbial products to enhance the resistance of rice plants and minimize the use of chemical fertilizers in order to reduce production costs. Increase the effectiveness of activities that encourage and connect businesses to establish a connection between the consumption of rice in districts, towns, and cities, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted production.
